Inside the pack

Four skills. One simple project.

Lines and curves

Rows of straight guides, waves, loops and circles help you practice steady movement and clean starts and stops.

Shading and stippling

Gradient boxes and dot-density grids give you a way to compare light and dark marks on the same piece of wood.

A geometric sun

Bring your practice together in a traceable sun design. An instruction cover explains the print settings and routine.

Use the paper as a guide, then burn on wood.

  1. Print at 100% or actual size. You can rehearse the shapes on paper with a pencil.
  2. For pyrography practice, transfer the guides onto smooth, suitable unfinished wood using graphite or transfer paper. Remove all paper before using the hot pen.
  3. Set up your workspace following the safety guide and your tool instructions. Use a light touch and steady movement.
  4. Work through one exercise at a time. Keep your practice boards so you can compare the marks over time.

See the design-transfer guide for help getting the lines onto your wood.

Put the practice to use.

Follow the seven-day practice plan, or start your first project with the complete beginner guide. If you need supplies, compare wood-burning kits and read about choosing wood for pyrography.
