About

Jake, Fire Needle founder and wood burning artist

Meet Jake

I’m a wood burning artist with 15 years of hands-on experience. Everything on Fire Needle comes from real work at my bench in Asheville, testing hundreds of kits, tools, and techniques. I don’t sell products or take sponsorships, so every recommendation here is based solely on what actually works and what I’d genuinely buy.

When I say a kit is worth your money, I’ve burned with it. When I explain why shading matters or how to pick wood, it’s because I learned it the hard way and want you to skip the mistakes.

How Fire Needle Started

15 years ago I was burning wood in my garage in Asheville, watching every mistake happen in real time. Wrong tools that made the work slower. Wrong wood that wouldn’t take the heat cleanly. Bad technique that I had to unlearn the hard way.

Fire Needle exists because I wish I’d had a resource like this back then. Something that tested gear with real hands. Something that didn’t sell hype. Something that treated beginners like they were serious about the craft.

Every review here is tested by hand. Every guide is written from my workbench. When I say a kit is worth buying, it’s because I’ve burned with it. When I say a wood isn’t right for beginners, it’s because I’ve wasted wood proving it.
